Hello, my name is Dr Kiril Georgiev, an orthopaedic surgeon at Veterinary Clinic VET ORTO - Zoo Centre, and for over 14 years I've specialised in veterinary orthopaedics, traumatology and genetic-skeletal conditions. Today I want to talk about a very important issue - early diagnosis of elbow and hip dysplasia. Many kinds of animals suffer from dysplasia, even cats, but mostly medium and large dog breeds.
The most common are the German Shepherd, Labrador, Golden Retriever, Rottweiler, Cane Corso, Caucasian Shepherd Dog, Newfoundland, St Bernard and many, many others.
Over the years we've worked with many breeders and owners, and I've come to realise they aren't aware of how important early diagnosis is - it should start at 4 months of age for medium breeds and at 5 months for giant breeds.
If your pet is one of these breeds, or you have any concerns, my advice is to book an appointment for early diagnosis of hip and elbow dysplasia.
